While excited, neither is pressing to set a date for the big day. They love life and live it to its fullest, always knowing it’s going to throw them curveballs at every turn.
Cruz and the Ravage MC have a huge run that requires a little assistance from the Hellions MC to split the load and get it to its location on time. While the guys are gone, Princess learns some unexpected news that will change everything.

What happens while these key players in their clubs are away? Are they prepared for what they come home to? Two clubs, two couples, one transport, and very little is the same by the end of the ride.

Novella ties things up with both stories

This is a collaborated book, but not in the sense that both clubs are involved with each other during the entire book. It’s actually 2 separate stories, where the club has one meeting point.

The Ravage MC guys have 2 loads going out, but they are in opposite directions & the both have the same delivery date. So the Ravage MC makes a call to the Hellions MC to get another transport set up. This is the only time that a few of the club guys are together.

The Hellions story is the first part of the book. Rex and his brother Tripp take their Crews Transport big rig to the Ravage MC to pick up their load and haul to New Mexico. Along the way they run into trouble, but between them and the backup following them in a car, they were able to take care of the problem. Through that drama, we’re given some insight into the Original Ride book. Meanwhile, Caroline aka Lux is at home planning her and Rex’s wedding. Now, Rex just has to make it home so that they can make dreams come true.

The Ravage part of the book had Harlow aka Princess and Cruz as the main characters. Cruz had previously asked Princess to marry him and she accepted, even though she wasn’t in any big rush to walk down the aisle. But now she is nearing her due date and still hasn’t made any decisions and Cruz is getting antsy. Princess is kept mighty busy with Cruz’s son, Cooper and getting ready for birth.

I like both of these series, but they both have timeline issues compared to when the books have been published and both authors have also stated this. In the front of this book both authors show where this book fits in with their timeline.

Love me some Rex and Lux

I received this novella from the author for an honest review.
*Fluffs my hair and applies lip gloss* Oh yes ladies Rex is backkk!! My baby daddy is yummier then ever!! He and Lux are so happy but looking to set their wedding date. Of course Lux wants a DELUXE wedding and of course Rex will make it happen for his ol’ lady.
When Rex is called away on a transport, Lux starts to think. She just wants her ol’mans name. She spends some 1 on 1 time with Axel and realizes that she wants to complete this family. She begins to plan with Sass, Doll and Tessie. They are all going to make this weeding happen Hellions Style. But when Rex goes quiet for a few days. Lux freaks out that her man will not be home to complete her dream……
Rex loves Lux and would give her anything. He will lay the word at her feet and if New York is what she want, then that is what she will get. He has decided when he returns home she will get the wedding she wants and deserves. A bump in the transport road has him returning home late and to a surprise. Caroline had decided to claim her man as her husband!!
The feels were there in this book. Roundman telling Lux she is his other daughter. Tripp talking about the love that Doll and he have. He teaches Rex about the “tangibles” of loving someone. It was one of the best scenes in the book. It warmed my heart. If you haven’t read this series, I highly suggest you give them a try but remember that REX IS MINE!

2 amazing stories within 2 amazing MC's!!!

Rex and Lux - Hellions MC

Rex is Hellions MC VP and has to go out on club business with Tripp, club President and his blood cousin. He is desperate to get back so he can take Lux to New York so they can get married...
Unbeknown to him that whilst he's away, Lux has missed him so badly that she has decided that she doesn't want to wait to get married, she wants to marry him asap!!!
This was an amazing short story and it was wonderful to catch up with the Hellions MC. I'm desperate to find out what is going to be happening next with Chelsea's MC series!!!

Cruz and Princess - Ravage MC

Cruz is preparing for an overnight club business trip. Whilst he's away, he is worried that Princess is not feeling well and sleepy all the time. Princess gets knocked on her ass when a test comes up positive... Now she just has to tell Cruz!!!
Cruz is over the moon and plans a surprise for her and then they have a massive shock moment which leaves them both gob smacked. When a problem arises they pull together and with compleate support of everyone they love, it all turns out amazingly!!!
I will admit this was an emotional read and yes i did have a cry, just remember to keep tissues at hand when reading!!! Loved catching up with Savage MC and i'm waiting in desperation to know what Ryan has planned for her next book!!!

All in all this was a beautiful light read that i truly enjoyed... Spending time with two amazing MC's!!! I couldn't put it down once i started and i really can't wait to find out what's next for both authors. A definate 10/10 read that i recommend if you enjoy strong alpha bikers with hearts of gold and hot scourching sex with their ol' ladies!!!

My eyes tend to glaze over when I encounter YAPBAQPs (Yet Another Popular Book About Quantum Physics). But this volume captured my attention, and imagination. Told in the same way as Alice in Wonderland (with many of the original passages re-tooled to their new purpose) and a hint of Flatland, Gilmore guides us through the principles of Quantum mechanics in a truly lively and fun way. I suspect it may even be a good read for teens or extremely bright children.

Readers in Wonderland!

I found this book very readable & an excellent introduction to QM. The other really good intro that I would recommend would be Fred Alan Wolf's "Taking The Quantum Leap." Some of the ideas of this fascinating subject I found to be clearer in Gilmore's book....others I thought were said with less verbosity in Wolf's book. As Gilmore's book is told in the style of Lewis Carrol's allegory, it is a touch more pleasant to read.....but not much. I would recommend reading them both for a complete intro to the wonderful world of theoretical physics. Afterwards, I would recommend "In Search Of Schroedinger's Cat" by John Gribbin and "Parallel Universes" (also by Fred Alan Wolf).

Fun Book to read

Very fun book almost complimentary to Mr. Tompkins. A lotof concepts are explained, Uncertainity with Heisenberg Bank, matter antimatter, electric current,I loved the description of electrontron spin described as umbrellas up or down,two slit experient, superposition principal with taking routes in the wilderness. It is very nice to put some imaginations into Quantum Concepts. I think it is very good book for interested student in high school, before he gets into dry formulas of Quantum Mechanics to see what is to come or someone who is already in it to put some image to the formulas.

Rolling in his grave as he's reviewed ...........

It is important to point out that Teddie Adorno is spinning in his grave, for the very venue on which I am reviewing Critical Models is itself an example of the fetishized, reified and administered world that Adorno named, and critiqued. However, Adorno's philosophical tradition also includes the catchphrase what is, is right, and would probably view the Internet as more or less a necessary consequence of vast economic forces which it would be simple minded to simply ignore, or negate. And, his "dialectical" logic not only permits us to log on and praise him where praise is due: it requires us to do so.
This collection is of essays written after Adorno returned to the Federal Republic of Germany in the early 1950s. Because culturally Adorno was "very German" and indeed he resented the *Volkische* definition of Germanness imposed by Hitler, Adorno delayed his escape, as the son of a Jewish father and Catholic mother, from Hitlerdom to a dangerous point. He resided briefly in England and somewhat longer in America. Strangely, he did not like England and (given the choice) preferred America, and specifically California, the latter because of its climate.
This collection makes it clear that although Adorno was critical of many tendencies in America he was by no means knee-jerk in his criticism. Adorno enjoyed the very real democracy of American life and the very real empiricism of science as practised here...insofar as democracy and empiricism did not become, as a very different sort of emigre might call it, a shtick, or a number: or, as Adorno would call it, fetishized or reified.
But it is clear from these essays that Adorno would be very critical of changes in America that have occured since my generation, that of the immediate post-war Baby Boom, has taken over the shop. Adorno's work on Fascist tendencies in California, for example, located Fascism in our hearts and at our dinner tables. These tendencies are denied in ceremonies (such as the commemoration, last week, of the bombing in Oklahoma City) which are structured by press and lawyers in a way that fully denies anything like a spontaneous response.
One naturally wonders why it is that people at these commemorations, which memorialize real pain that should never be repeated, have to act in such structured fashions, and it was the structuring of Timothy McVeigh's life by similar tendencies that caused him, in all probability, to bomb the Murragh building.
It was irresponsible to decry social research that located Fascist and authoritarian tendencies so close to home and to expect no incidents such as the bombing of the Oklahoma City building. Adorno's work is a reminder to examine our own environment for barbarism, and Americans who have worked on issues of domestic abuse are in his tradition, even if they would actually find the guy irritating, arrogant and conceited...all of which he was.
Some of the book does require, because of Adorno's arrogance, a knowledge of German philosophy, which is not a laugh a minute by any means. The essay "On Subject and Object", for example, may be completely opaque, even to, and especially to, the "educated" reader if her education is in the typical American university. That's because what we mean by the subject may be divergent from what Ted meant, a difference expressed by our own "catchphrase", "that's subjective."
"That's subjective" means in ordinary usage that "that" can be dismissed, and despite the (laudable) place that mere listening plays in our life, "that's subjective" forecloses listening. Adorno writes from a tradition in which subjectivity is not a sink and instead is a source of value.
The surprising end of "on subject and object" is one in which the mere subject acquires value precisely by being removed from a place of origin: we realize, in the general murk of Adorno's style, that the very reason why we exhibit a false humility about our own subjectivity is that we are delivered a false story about our origins as "the first man", which exalts the subjectivity of a mythical Adam, and makes our own second-hand. Adorno makes the common sense point that given our initial resources (which are inferior, because less specialized, than those of other large mammals) "the first man" was probably the group, in which the "subjectivity" of each member had to be (paradoxically enough) treasured because it was a group resource.
The experience of reading the more difficult essays is one of struggle, and reward, in which one realizes that one's mere failure to comprehend is only in part a product of ignorance: it is one of dawn. This is in contrast to reading the typical American scholarly essay in which the very lack of participation and struggle...and the airy dismissal of important questions as marginalia, drives questions to the zone of the subconscious.
That is, Adorno is outside of the tradition which recast and rephrased problems into such a shape that they could be solved...that their solution was implied by their clear phrasing. Mathematics is an example of this. At its best (and Adorno conceded this in many ways) this tradition is a source of both power and democracy.
At its worst, however, and especially as applied to Adorno's own field of social research, this tradition makes people into objects precisely because it has to ignore the philosopher's tendency to delay, by questioning everything. The most obscene consequence of this is the political poll and its unstated influence on our elections.
Like Adorno's longer works but more accessibly, Critical Models rewards reading, and rereading: the very density of his style provides, in terms that would make the guy shudder, good value for the dollar...precisely because, as

A good jumping-off point for neophyte Adorno readers

If you want to understand something about the nature of Adorno's overall project, read the guy below, sadly cut off as he is in mid-sentence. If your only contact with Adorno is the bitter "Minima Moralia" or the (to me) rebarbative "Negative Dialectics", this is an essential complement. If you aren't interested in radical cultural criticism...er, why are you reading this?
Critical Models is a collection of essays, articles and radio talks, mostly from quite late in Adorno's career. I am neither a philosopher nor an academic, and would be the first person to admit that I'm not quite up to Adorno's more Hegelian moments. I'm just casting about for help in an increasingly bland, homogenised, uncritical cultural environment, and the best thing about Critical Models is that it's Adorno being unusually _helpful_.
This is Adorno throwing himself into the task of trying to build a post-war democracy in Germany, not Adorno the cantankerous emigre complaining that doors shut more violently than they used to. He urges the value of promoting the status of teachers, of rooting out and criticising Nazi attitudes (who'd have thought that they'd still be flourishing fifty years on). Adorno is seldom a very approachable writer, but here he's making the effort to communicate to a mass audience, and to a relatively uneducated schmuck like me it's critical dynamite. The spine of my copy of Negative Dialectics may remain forever uncreased, but this one will be carried around.

Enlightening

The essays in this text were a breath of fresh air after having to read The Arcades Project by Walter Benjamin. I get the feeling that the world of academia is super-excited right now about Benjamin, but I find Adorno to suit my taste much more. In this book you sense that he is not just writing for himself or for others on the same intellectual wavelength - who are familiar with all the philosophical jargon. He is trying to reach out to a broader audience and I really benefited from this effort of his.

His work on television in this text is extremely relevant. He basically examines how our relationship with television is not necessarily a case of art imitating life, but life imitating art. (Is television art though?) The culture industry therefore has a lot of power in teaching us how to live and what values to hold dear - but, whose values are they? We spend most of our time at work then we come home switch on the TV, tune in and tune out. But, do we ever really tune out? Does TV reinforce social bonds or does it act as a sad replacement for a sense of community and social engagement that we are denied (paraphrasing Adorno here)? Does TV keep the working man pacified and distracted from thinking about how he is being screwed over on the daily by the system? Is there an observable ideology behind TV program scripts? Why do we enjoy watching TV? Adorno engages very thoughtfully with these questions and more. You get the sense that he really cares about the future of the world and wants people to raise their awareness about the society they are living in by equipping them with the critical tools necessary to address the medias of the culture industry. He shows you how life can be read like literature.

There's a lot in this compilation. I would say that his Taboos on the Teaching Vocation was very fun to read. He seems really pissed off throughout the book at the way teachers and intellectuals are represented in the culture industry and the way they are perceived in communal thought. On TV for example, the intellectual or the artist is emasculated, often shown as being gay, narcissistic, or whiney.

Anyway, I would check this book out. I'm glad I did and I look forward to reading more by Adorno.

Provides a comprehensive view of the aspects of predatory lending, and makes a good case for debt refusal given the right circumstances. Debt refusal makes sense when there is little or no choice in the debt acquisition or deception is involved, but not so much when debt results from irresponsible financial management. Teaching the importance of living within one's means would take a lot of the steam out of the Creditocracy, and is as important a strategy as debt refusal.

Some accessible Roman writing on the natural world

Most of the writing we have by Roman authors is verse rather than prose. Most of the prose that exists is political history or about rhetoric, and there is little about the planets, animals, music, mathematics, or metaphysics. This short book by Censorinus is made of short essays about things having to do with birthdays, like the development of the fetus, astrology, the notion of a Great Year, and calendars. It is pleasant to read and there are competent notes by the translator. Good translations and commentaries on prose works like this see what an educated Roman knew and thought worth writing about, and are a great contribution to the history of ideas.

This book gives an account of the state of the art in the study of fast multiscale methods for solving these equations based on wavelets. The authors begin by introducing essential concepts and describing conventional numerical methods. They then develop fast algorithms and apply these to solving linear, nonlinear Fredholm integral equations of the second kind, ill-posed integral equations of the first kind and eigen-problems of compact integral operators. Theorems of functional analysis used throughout the book are summarised in the appendix. The book is an essential reference for practitioners wishing to use the new techniques. It may also be used as a text, with the first five chapters forming the basis of a one-semester course for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduates.

About the Author
Zhongying Chen is a professor of computational mathematics at Sun Yat-Sen University, China. He is the author or co-author of more than 70 professional publications, including the books Generalized Difference Methods for Differential Equations and Approximate Solutions of Operator Equations. He has served on the editorial board of four journals including Advances in Computational Mathematics, and two book series including the Series in Information and Computational Science, China.

Charles A. Micchelli is a distinguished research professor of mathematics at SUNY Albany and an international leader of approximation theory and wavelet analysis. His research interests cover approximation theory, wavelet analysis, computer aided geometric design, multiscale methods for Fredholm integral equations, speech recognition and mathematical learning theory. Prior to his current position, he was employed by IBM T. J. Watson Research Center as a senior research staff member for over 30 years. Honors he has received include the Senior Alexander von Humboldt Prize and an invitation to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians (1983). Micchelli is an editor of several leading journals in approximation theory and computational mathematics and also the founding editor of Advances in Computational Mathematics, for which he served as editor-in-chief from 1994 to 2011. He is the author or co-author of over 300 research publications and an owner of several patents. His research has been supported by the US National Science Foundation and the Office of Science of the US Air Force.

Yuesheng Xu is a professor emeritus of mathematics at Syracuse University, USA and Guohua Chair Professor at Sun Yat-Sen University, China. He is a National Scholar of China, the director of Guangdong Province Key Laboratory of Computational Science, and the president of the Guangdong Province Association of Computational Mathematics. Xu is also a member of the executive committee of the Association of Computational Mathematics of China and an Adjunct Professor of radiology at SUNY Upstate Medical University, USA. His research interests include approximation theory and wavelet analysis, the numerical solution of integral equations and PDEs, and image and signal processing. He currently serves on the editorial board of seven academic journals, including Advances in Computational Mathematics, where he was the managing editor from 1999 to 2011, and the Journal of Integral Equations and Applications. He has published over 150 research papers. His research has been supported by the US National Science Foundation, the Office of Science of the US Air Force, NASA and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Province Government of China.

No-nonsense, old fashion Weightlifting

My first impression when I opened a light and skinny envelop of the delivered book was that of opening some business correspondence letter. The book is only 132 pages, of black and weight print that could be produced on a home printer, the era preceding of hp-laser or inkjet. Though the first edition came in 1997, it immediately revived my memory of the struggle to print and publish my own book on those days. It is a painful experience for authors to meddle with so many hurdles in order to get their information to the reader. Then, there is my bias in favor of a fellow weightlifter attempting to maintain a dying sport form retiring to history archives.

In total contravention to the inclusive format of Drechsler's Weightlifting Encyclopedia and El-Hewie's Essentials of Weightlifting and Strength Training, Cissik sticks to the hardcore of old fashion Weightlifting. The classical two lifts; Clean and Jerk and Snatch, are described, together with their immediate supporting exercises. The back, front, and overhead squat; deadlift with various handgrips and height of pull; goodmorning in standing, seating, and ground positions; pullover, and stretching is all that trainees need to advance in weightlifting. That is a bold and daring confrontation of appealing consumerism that thrives on promoting expensive machines, fancy exercise accessories, and endless exercises that do little, if any, good to fitness.

The simplicity, clarity, and accuracy of Cissik's Introduction outweighs it poor production quality and attests to the author's courage to stand tall on substance. Although, the book is intended as an introduction, the above mentioned attributes make the book practical and convenient for modern day busy people. In addition, each chapter begins with neat tabulated highlights and basic contents and ends with a list of references. Inside the chapters, the author places the reference citation where needed in every page.

Its drawbacks are:

(1) Complete omission of individualized peripheral training exercises. Modern weightlifters rival bodybuilders; on bulk and definition, and powerlifters; on peak isometric strength. Many young weightlifters could not attain the astronomically high level of modern international records because of lack of muscular bulk. Cissik's old fashion training emphasizes the technique of lifting and periodization for robust, explosive power, yet falls short on massing slow twitching muscle fibers. Those require dedicated bodybuilding training during off season or prior to committing to protracted competitive weightlifting career.

The fear that bodybuilding and powerlifting exercises would do away with the mental skill, specific to the explosive full range of motion and highly coordinated dynamics of weightlifting, is well understood and recognized by experienced lifters and coaches. However, modern lifters have sufficient resources to ease the highly toned and acutely inflamed structures caused by such repetitive and depleting modes of exercising. Yoga, Pilates, Stretch, UV booths, saunas, and massage are few such modern remedies for the side effects of strengthening through controlled motion exercising. That however raises the stakes of heart and cellular reserves. Could the heart tolerate multiple overloads? Could the cellular metabolism adapt its enzymatic machinery to oppositely demanding activities? or, could the trainee have access to adequate health knowledge in dealing with such double sword training modes? Cissik's answer is: simplicity; a wise, safe, and practical choice.

(2) Jumping straight in the air during the pull isn't scientific. Although few great lifters do jump, the laws of mechanics forbid jumping. It wastes energy. Explosive extension isn't synonymous with jumping. Cissik is rightfully insisting on not spreading the feet sideways, yet wrongfully advises jumping. Jumping might be stimulating, yet wasteful.

(3) The deep squat during the amortization phase portrays to some that "deep" is a requirement for lifting. It is better to emphasize that squatting should be as high as it is needed to catch the barbell at its (the barbell) final destination. Unnecessarily deep squat should be reserved for training, stretching, and strengthening.

Excellent Book!

This book is MUCH better than the first edition. The beginning of the book is a concise description of the Olympic exercises and associated assistance exercises. This is good for the beginning lifter. The second half of the book is on workout design. It is EXCELLENT and draws heavily on EASTERN EUROPEAN texts (They always have the best lifters!). The book is worth buying for this section. Powerlifters and fitness buffs can use the principles outlined here to greatly improve their progress. Every chapter is heavily referenced for those who are interested in learning more.

A Rare Find

There are not many books published on the sport of Olympic and Olympic-style lifting as the sport's popularity has dropped steadily since the American dominance in the 1960's when the great Tommy Kono was on the lifting platform. I was hard-pressed to find many books on the sport, but was delighted when I found this one. Cissik does a good job of explaining the complicated techniques involved in the various Olypic (style) lifts. As one who never did the lifts but is trying to learn how, this book is spot on. Learning such moves without the aid of a coach is extremely difficult, but Cissik's explanations and photos are the next best thing to live instruction or even video. He also gives the reader sample programs and routines to follow to get ready for lifting competition. The book is no high-tech glossy, but a real world, down and dirty manual for learning the sport. The print, presentation, and format of the book has an almost scholarly feel, perhaps even unconsciously so which seems fitting considering where the sport of Olympic Lifting now resides in contemporary America.
