Price’s exploration of these issues is based on several years of research involving participant-observation in domestic violence courts and extensive interviews with activists, advocates, incarcerated women, and women who have faced various forms of violence. Both conceptually and methodologically, the book challenges narrow notions of violence against women and demonstrates implications for judicial intervention and other forms of public involvement.

but I really enjoyed The Change Up

I admit, I'm a newcomer to Syd Parker, so I can't base my review off of having read other books of hers, but I really enjoyed The Change Up!. I'm a pretty avid reader of lesbian romance and this was a good one! The biggest plus for me is that I got to spend some imaginary time out on the ball field! Being raised as a good ole southern baptist girl in the heart of dixie, I found that I could relate to so much of the complexities of feelings that Bell found herself fighting. I'd recommend this book for sure, I got pulled in pretty quickly and before I knew it, I was on my last page and wasn't ready for it to end!
Syd, you need to write us a women's softball team story!! Take me back out to the ballgame!!

The Change Up

Loved the story, very emotional and thought provoking. A story of choices and coming to terms with yourself and your beliefs and deciding how you want to live your life. I'm sure a lot of this book came from personal experiences and I'm sure it was a very difficult story to tell. All said I think it is well worth the time and money to read. I've always enjoyed Syd's books and this one is no exception and I'm sure it will be read again soon.

I've read all of Syd Parker's books. Loved this one the most I think.
The Change-Up is not the typical girl meets girl, fall in love etc . . . . This is about real life struggles with emotions, love, facing truths about yourself and things you've believed in all your life. Having a son Kevins age about to go off to college also made it even more emotional for me. You never know what life with throw at you, and that's one of the many things I love about this book I just didn't see certain things coming, I was glad I had tissues nearby. And it's people who stick by your side no matter what that make all the difference! I loved Kevins outlook throughout this whole book too.
Definitely one to read!!!

Not So Good

If you have a good understanding of math this book will seem elementary. If math, algebra type, is hard for you then this book will be confusing and frustrating. Unfortunately, if you have no problem with algebra etc then this book will bore you. Too hard for non-math people and too easy for math folks. It just doesn't work.

I used this book as a refresher after being away from physics for a while. It was brilliant. I really liked the illustrations and the wording was simple and to the point. A book I would recommend for anyone who is just starting out physics or needs THAT book that will make them understand the previously incomprehensible. In fact get the complete stick figure tutorials!

A great book

As a history student I found this book a really good source to write my essay on the methods of terror used by the Bolsheviks. This book is designed to all of those that study the history of nationalities after October of 1917. I think this should be one of the first books of Pipes on the. subject of the Bolsheviks. It is really interesting that Pipes provides a lot of information in an era (1950's) when there was little information about the Soviet Union. I have also read from Pipes, The Russian Revolution, Russia under the Bolshevik Regime, The Unknown Lenin and Russia under the Old Regime.

Suprisingly well written, flows wonderfully

In the exceedingly complex series of events that went into the making of the Russian Revolution and its subsequent devolution into the communist government of Felix and Vladimir, Pipes makes another foray into clarity and meaning, and succeeds wonderfully.
While this book might not interest the causal reader on Comunist Russia and her sattellites, it is as close to seamless reading as we will ever find for the ethnographer of violence in the Russian landscape.
And what the hell, it still might interest the causual reader- I guarantee you will go away with a complete picture of an important period of time.

She discovers both the complexity that comes with free choice and the depth of her attachment to her husband, her daughters, and her new world. While Nazneen journeys along her path of self-realization, her sister, Hasina, rushes headlong at her life, first making a "love marriage," then fleeing her violent husband. Woven through the novel, Hasina's letters from Dhaka recount a world of overwhelming adversity.
